We were thrilled to host the OSCAR Kick Like A Girl tour at Heathfield from 11 to 13 October.
OSCAR is a not for profit organisation which provides football coaching to underprivileged boys and girls in Mumbai and across India. OSCAR offers a unique programme that teaches these children the value of education through sport and provides a positive and life-changing alternative to life on the streets.Heathfield girls gave the 15 OSCAR girls who came to stay a fantastically warm reception and they have loved mixing and talking together. There has been a host of planned activities that they have taken part in, including a fantastic assembly where they performed traditional dances and shared their very moving personal experiences.
The Art Department hosted a fun painting workshop which ensured that our sixteen visitors from Mumbai had the opportunity to explore new media and access the Art curriculum at Heathfield.
Heathfield pupils enjoyed a fun training session with the OSCAR girls and played a friendly football match. The visit drew to a close with the OSCAR girls performing two traditional dances at the Music Captains Concert receiving rapturous applause from girls, parents, and staff.
All the girls discovered they share a common goal. To work hard and to be the best they can be. They have laughed and cried. Heathfield pupils and OSCAR girls have learned so much from each other. We are privileged to support this amazing journey. Well done to OSCAR Ambassadors Kiki and Minty (Form V) for leading the change. This is a visit that will never be forgotten.
