Heathfield’s annual Sports Day was a great success! Thanks to efforts from all involved the day ran smoothly and it was great to see so many pupils competing for their House.

The Juniors started their morning on the track as the Seniors and Inters took to their field events. There was much excitement on the track as many records were broken- starting with Millie (Form II) creating a new record on 75m hurdles with 13.13s and breaking Amara’s (Form V) 100m sprint record from 2021 to set a new time of 13.75s. Zana (Form II) had a fantastic morning in both short and long distance events, setting new records of 50.01s for 300m, 2.41.56s for 800m and 5.31.00s for 1500m. Meanwhile, on the field, the records continued to be broken. Jazzy (LVI) excelled in Discus, smashing her own record, and setting a new personal best of 25.27m.

Mid-morning and the age groups switched to their track events with some fine performances on display. Amara (Form V) returned to school after prom and displayed a masterclass on the track, scooping up 1st place in both the 100m and 200m. Annabel (Form V) returned to her favourite long-distance event, the 800m, breaking her previous record with a new time of 2.34.00s. Over at the Junior field, Sophia (Form I) set new record in the Discus with 19.55m and Issey (Form II) excelled in the Shot Put, smashing the record from 2013 to hold a new distance of 7.85m.

More records were broken in the relays with both Seacole Junior and Senior teams setting new records. The day finished with the Open Relay in which Millie (Form II), Amara (Form V), Annabel R (Form V) and Jazzy (LVI) combined their speed to create a new record of 56.62s.

Huge congratulations to Zana (Form II) who was awarded the Victrix Ludorum Cup; this is awarded to the most successful athlete on Sports Day. Zana came 1st in four events overall and has had a hugely successful season in athletics this term.
