Form III started the Bronze Award expedition training in preparation for the practice and assessed expeditions next term in the Chilterns and the North Downs.
Dropped in Swinley Forest, the girls learnt how to map read and take compass bearings to help keep them on the ‘right track’ as well as how to put up their tents and use a trangia. Despite a few missed turns along the way, everyone arrived back safely. Sunday’s training involved preparing map routes and calculating their distance and time, based on walking 3km / hr. The girls also learnt about the best types of food to take with them so they can keep their energy levels high throughout the weekends.
