After a light lunch the whole school congregated in the St Mary’s Theatre to listen to our guest speaker, Vanessa Vallely. Vanessa, author of Heels of Steel,is regarded as one of the most well networked women in and out of the City and is passionate about sharing her know-how and experiences with others. In 2008 she launched the networking site www.wearethecity.com. Vanessa encouraged the girls to think about the power of their networks; she explained to them the importance of their personal ‘brand’ and explained that you need to be bold and ask. After Vanessa’s talk the girls had a question and answer session with her, and when this came to an end the girls were still so keen to continue questioning Vanessa that a large proportion of the school ended up congregating back in Mrs Heywood’s study to ensure their questions were answered! Founder’s Day continued with a high tea being served in the Dining Room where the girls sat with their Houses, and this was followed by a Chapel service. Later that evening the girls enjoyed a feast supper before heading over to the theatre for the evening entertainment. The staff had managed to keep the entertainment a big secret and the girls didn’t know what to expect but the laughter, applause and singing certainly indicated they approved. The staff scripted, rehearsed and performed the pantomime Cinderella, Heathfield style. Everyone loved the unique and personal production which concluded Founder’s Day 2014 perfectly.
