The intention is to remember that just as the crowd who welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem by waving palm branches soon had a change of heart and shouted for Barabbas to be set free and for Jesus to be crucified, so we also as followers of Christ are susceptible to a change of heart. At times we are passionate about our faith and at other times our actions betray Christ and ourselves. Ash Wednesday is a time for us to acknowledge our faults and to start a new trend to be more faithful, to move closer to Christ who loves us so dearly and show us the way to the Father.
