The Learning Support Department at Heathfield consists of a SENCo, literacy and numeracy teachers, and a dedicated EAL specialist. We are committed to fostering self-confidence and promoting independent learning. With the right support, skills, and strategies, we aim for all our girls to succeed not only in school but also in their future endeavours.
Collaboration is at the heart of our approach, as we work closely with all departments, parents, and staff to communicate individual needs and implement effective strategies, whether following an assessment or in response to emerging needs or diagnoses.
Upon entry, students undergo baseline testing to help identify potential support needs. Additional information, such as Educational Psychology reports, school reports, and input from parents, is also considered to build a comprehensive understanding of each student’s needs. For those needing extra support, strategies are shared with teachers through an Individual Learning Plan, and referrals to external specialists may be recommended to assess emerging needs, including eligibility for exam access arrangements. Some students may require 1:1 weekly support at an additional charge.
