Lunchtime Concert

In 1749, George II commissioned Handel to compose a piece of music to accompany a fireworks display in London’s Green Park. In the middle of the display, the pavilion caught fire. The Heathfield Orchestra were more successful, opening the lunchtime concert with the Menuet from Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks – everything went off without a hitch!

Zoe shared with us one of her organ solos, Gabriel’s Oboe from the 1986 film, The Mission by Ennio Morricone capturing the beautiful melody so well. Emma followed, sensitively portraying the song My House from the musical Matilda, where Miss Honey reveals to Matilda her tragic back story. Next came Sophia, playing Cloudscapes by the Irish pianist Aibhe McDonagh with a lovely lilting quality very appropriate for the title. I could have Danced all Night was Polina’s choice, made famous by Audrey Hepburn in the 1962 film, My Fair Lady. Olivia caught the character of The Cheshire Cat very effectively in her piano solo and Freya followed with the iconic song Colours of the Wind from the Disney animation film, Pocahontas. Form II ended the lunchtime concert with the iconic 1995 theme tune to Friends, I’ll be there for you.
